School Nurse

21CCCS recognizes student health and wellness as an important part of each child’s education. Our Certified School Nurses support student success and want to ensure health related issues do not impede a student’s ability to learn. The purpose of the health services provided by the school nurses are to protect and promote student health, establish good health habits and to increase knowledge of public health to all students.

HEALTH SCREENING

As part of health services, the school nurse maintains health records for all students as required by Pennsylvania School Code.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health REQUIRES yearly screenings for ALL public school children (regardless of the school setting).  In addition, both physical and dental exams must be completed at various intervals throughout the child’s education.

IMMUNIZATIONS

The intent of immunization regulations is to keep children healthy in school and to minimize the chance of disease which could seriously impair a child’s ability to learn. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (as required by PA law) has specific immunization regulations relating to school enrollment and attendance.
