Military Recruiters Opt-Out

Military Recruiters – Opt-out  | (High School Students)

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania passed legislation on June 27, 1991, requiring schools to provide armed forces recruiters the same access to student lists made available to colleges and trade schools. The legislation (Act 10) further provides that “students must be notified of the requirements of the Act and given 21 days to request, in writing, to be excluded from the list.” This notification was provided in the Student and Parent Handbook, but we are offering an additional notification and opportunity to request to be excluded.

The 21st Century Cyber Charter School will prepare a list of 11th and 12th grade students and release it to military recruiters, upon their request, UNLESS parents or students sign an “opt-out” form. The purpose of this information is to notify you and your child about how to prevent having student contact information released to military recruiters. If the student is under age 18, the parent must sign the opt-out. If the student is age 18 or over, the student must sign the opt-out.

Name, address, and telephone number will be released to institutions of higher education and/or military recruiters that request this information. While we are committed to protecting the confidentiality of our students, we must comply with the law.

If you are a parent of a child younger than 18, and you do not consent to the disclosure of this information, you must complete, sign, and return this form to your child’s school by October 18, 2024. If you do not return the form by this date and your child is a student in the 11th or 12th grade, we will release your child’s information upon request.

If you are a student who is 18 years of age or older, you must determine whether to consent to release the information. Students 18 or older who do not want to release their information must complete, sign, and submit this form to their school by October 18, 2024. If the opt-out letter is not returned, the student’s information will be released upon request.

Requests to opt out must be made within 30 calendar days of student enrollment or at the start of the school year. Additional information can be found in Board Policy #2016.
